CHICKS ‘N’ PICKS

The Chicks N Picks course focuses on ice and mixed climbing, but will offer a refresher of some snow craft skills as needed. We can cater to the interests of the group, but prior experience with axe and crampons and experience on e.g. grade 1-2 peaks is mandatory. There will be one day on ice, one day on mixed.

The course will be held around the Remarkables Ski field. The ice climbing will be held at either the Alta ice area or Touchdown area on the south face of Single Cone. The mixed climbing will be held near Alta Ice, or the buttresses in Sugar Bowl, or in Shadow Basin.

Compulsory pre-requisites:

• Participants need to have used ice axe and crampons before.
• Ability to top-rope belay someone.
• It is necessary to have rock climbed previously, and spent some time in snowy, alpine environments, including e.g. climbing grade 1-2 peaks.
• Participants need a reasonable level of fitness including being able to carry a full pack for up to 4 hours. This ensures that participants will gain greater enjoyment and learning outcomes from the course.
• This clinic will help improve your technique in a top-rope setting.
